They are vector borne – i.e. the virus lives within something else to survive and move around. The vector itself does not usually harm the plant per se. Vectors include insects (e.g. the aphid Myzus persicae and Virus Yellows), or fungus or fungal-like plasmodiophoromycete (e.g. the plasmodiophoromycete Polymyxa betae and Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (= Rhizomania)).
