Repeated observation has been made that the field in which the beets grow will impact their storability. This is independent of variety and management. The clearest examples we have seen is in some trial work when the one field was treated exactly the same (variety, sow date, harvest date, fertiliser, machinery used at every step, etc) except for one major management factor applied at different places in the field: both irrigated / not irrigated, or heavy lime / no lime.
This project will focus on the multi-dimensional properties of soil (chemical, physical, biological) and its link to storability.
