ÄDELHOLM 2024: POST-HOLIDAY UPDATE

ÄDELHOLM 2024: POST-HOLIDAY UPDATE

14 August 2024. Sow +118 days.

INSECTS

Formal monitoring has ended.

With the worst insect threat behind us, it can be said that 2024 was an OK year. Beet fly / miner came early and has hung around, but the pressure has not been problematic. Black bean aphids came and went without meeting spraying thresholds. There are some patches around the edge of the field that look impacted, but they are recovering. No green-peach aphids were observed / confirmed, and the tortoise beetle (cassida nebulosa) ended up being more a fascination than an issue.

FOLIAR DISEASES

At monitoring on 7 August, rust was found on one or two plants, during 10 minutes of looking. Plant protection was ordered directly, and delivered on 12 August. By 14 August, rust was visible on every 20th plant, or so – it comes on quickly.

TI-foliar: 0.3 lt Comet Pro + 0.5 lt Revyona. Early 12 August.

No other diseases have yet been observed.

TII-foliar: as above, late on 2 Sept. The boom on the sprayer cracked on us, but we got the job done.

VIRUS YELLOWS

The plant protection group has had a hard time finding possible virus yellows events this year. We are quietly celebrating that. But there is a need to keep testing, so two samples from Ädelholm have been sent. Both look suspicious (see feature image), but both came from plants that stood on their own, while virus yellow usually appears in patches.
